The Opportunity

The IT Security Practitioner (Security Architect and Accreditation) will be responsible for contributing to the enablement of secure system design and accreditation.  The scope includes small-scale tactical solutions, through to more strategic cloud-based systems with the aim of supporting teams build secure systems and meet Approval to Use requirements.

Candidates must hold either a current TSPV security clearance or have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence recognised Psychological Assessment are preferred but this is not an essential requirement.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the secure design, build and sustainment of ONI IT capabilities. As part of an agile team applying DevSecOps principles, support projects to deliver systems with the appropriate level of security assurance and risk management. Technology scope is varied, but spans Cloud (Azure and AWS), PaaS (Kubernetes and Docker) and On-Prem (Windows-based)
  • Undertake day-to-day IT system accreditation activities
  • Support the maintenance of IT security policies and procedures; identify gaps and prepare updates as needed and well as modernise security awareness material.
  • Support the IT Security section in preparing information briefs and reports
  • Assist the Incident Response and Security Operations Centre functions
  • Other tasking in support of the organisation’s cyber security mission

The Ideal Candidate


  • Hold and maintain a minimum Top Secret PV Security Clearance
  • Relevant industry training or qualifications, such as IRAP, CISSP, CISM, CRISC, SABSA


  • Experience in completing system accreditation, in accordance with the ISM
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude in secure system design (including cloud, container and Windows based environments)
  • Experience applying Govt IT security policies (e.g. ISM, PSPF and E8) and developing internal security policies or procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including concise technical writing skills
  • Experience in performing system monitoring for security incidents and assisting in incident response activities
  • Experience in developing and sustaining IT security systems, including DMZ gateway or cross-domain environments
