Leadership Transition at Omni

03/11/2025

Omni today announced the appointment of Mr Steven Thorpe as Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 February 2026. Mr Thorpe will succeed Mr Jon Hawkins, the company’s founder and current Chief Executive Officer, who will assume the role of Chair of the Omni Board.

Founded by Mr Hawkins in October 2012, Omni was established on the principle that the private sector can deliver a range of cost effective and agile products and services for the national security and critical infrastructure sectors. This approach enables clients to better allocate resources to meet their operational and strategic requirements.

Since its establishment, Omni has grown to employ approximately 400 personnel and achieved an annual turnover of around $100 million. The company delivers a diverse portfolio of services across professional consulting, security, personnel vetting, psychological assessment, aviation (fixed and rotary wing), training, technical services, and critical infrastructure support and accreditation.

Mr Hawkins said:

“As Omni continues to evolve and mature into an Australian Prime, the organisation has strengthened its governance arrangements, including the establishment of a formal Board of Directors. The time is now right for me to step back from the CEO role and support the business in a different capacity. Mr Thorpe has been a key part of Omni’s journey and is exceptionally well positioned to lead the organisation through its next phase of growth.”

Mr Thorpe currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, having previously held the role of General Manager – Aviation and General Manager – Security. He will relocate from Perth to Canberra with his family to assume responsibility for Omni’s national operations.

Mr Thorpe said:

“It is an honour to be entrusted with leading Omni as we continue to expand and strengthen our position as a trusted, Australian-owned Prime Contractor. Under Jon’s leadership, Omni has experienced sustained growth and success. I look forward to building on this foundation and continuing to deliver high-quality outcomes for our Defence and industry partners.”

Omni is dedicated to being a trusted partner to the Commonwealth of Australia and private sector critical infrastructure providers. Omni is committed to a secure and stable Indo Pacific region through supporting national security efforts, including the delivery of AUKUS. Omni also maintains a strong commitment to the veteran and first responder community, with nearly 40 per cent of its workforce comprising individuals who have served Australia in uniform or emergency services roles.
