Omni celebrates National Reconciliation Week

31/05/2024

At Omni, we celebrate National Reconciliation Week as part of our commitment to advancing reconciliation with Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, in line with the objectives set out in our recent Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This year’s theme is ‘Now More Than Ever’, a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will — and must —continue.

All Australians play an important part when it comes to reconciliation, and by working together we can strengthen the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people and non-Indigenous Australians.

Geoff Brown, Omni’s General Manager Assurance, RAP Champion and proud Gunditjmara man, said that Reconciliation Week was an opportunity for Omni and all Australians to recognise, support and help Australia’s First Nations people.
.
“For me, Reconciliation Week is important because it allows us the opportunity to understand our First Nations peoples history, their culture and heritage. It’s important for me being part Indigenous that I have a good understanding and see how we can work together as a society in improving the lifestyle and benefits to our Indigenous population,” Mr Brown said.

Omni recently launched its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which contains meaningful and measurable outcomes for advancing reconciliation with Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples through three main areas including, broadening our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and organisations; increasing staff and stakeholder engagement opportunities; and expanding its support to educational and employment opportunities for First Nations peoples.
